Although I created this blog, DOWN TO THE ROOTS, several years
ago, the format never had the sense of clarity that I was seeking. .
After a number of less than satisfying attempts, I let it languish
on my blogger page. Then,
as often happens to me, one night in that half-dream state, the focus
found clarity. The word focus
comes from the Latin word meaning fireplace, or hearth, or
the point at which the fire
emanates, which easily morphs into home, family, home,
and the focal point (i.e., that which interests me).
Now the focus in more clear, that point from which the
fire comes, whether
that be home, hearth, or a focal point that "fires" me. So, Down
to the Roots will encase the
things that are important to me – people, poetry,
ideas, words,
stories, sights and sounds.
I have
often written in my
Roots'n'Leaves blog
about the impact my maternal grandmother, Agnes Laura Keyes Sigford,
had on me. Somehow, without either of us trying or even being aware, she
transmitted her love of books, poetry and words to me. Here
are four of my favorite links relating to my Grandmother, Agnes Laura Keyes Sigford:
